Description
The Torre del Oro is a former military watchtower in Seville, built by the Almohad dynasty in order to control access to Seville via the Guadalquivir river. Once a prison, it got its name, "tower of gold," from the golden shine it reflected on the adjacent river due to its building materials (a mixture of mortar, lime and pressed hay).
